Lets not kid ourselves

The idea that common and consistent is good, and change is bad.

Unfortunately we took a step away from what has been normally acceptable, and we couldn't hold together. The idea was good, the execution was decent, but the fatal flaw in all of it was that it was in fact too original. There is a reason that in storytelling we find ourselves using cliche's and repeated bravado and it is because it is familiar to us. We can understand it, and it makes us comfortable. What we did here was not what was expected, and was not in the comfort zone of most. We stepped away from power levels, but then targeted an audience who knew only that. We are too limited on resources for this site to possibly reach the potential it deserves. Take a look if you will at our sister site, Awakening, and compare it to the others.

Dragonball Empire had the staff, and the story, but lacked the powerlevel aspect.
Dragonball Resurrection hasn't had consistent staffing since the blow up in July, but they still have the story and the powerlevels.

The only site that has all three, a decent story, active staff, and a system people understand is awakening. Does that make them a better site? Well they certainly have more members, and good for them, they deserve it. We took a different route, and found it didn't bear fruit. I hope that you all take some level of solace in the fact that we did something new and exciting, and even though it failed, we learned from it. I would highly recommend that if you want to return to the closest thing still in existence to what resurrection was, you look towards Awakening, however if you are still searching for that something new, I wish you the best of luck and hope that should you find it you would contact me.

I can't keep letting personal issue's get in the way of others creative process. This horse has been dying for long enough, its time to put her down, and go about our separate ways. I love and appreciate all of you who never gave up, and I understand those that did.

To add to this, I know it's kind of a crappy Christmas present, to announce that the forum isn't working, but it comes in the wake of a good present. Ryota had been tinkering for some time with a site, before even Resurrection imploded and when it became clear that our experiment here wasn't holding a critical mass of membership, I pushed Ryota to finish it. We recruited some help and within a just a few weeks have more or less completed it.

Now as for our experiment here, I have to take some of the blame. After the fiasco on Resurrection, I was so sick of people flaunting Power Level as the end all and be all that we gave a purely stat based system a try and what I failed to realized that while not the most important part of DB/DBZ, power levels are still a familiar staple and I think our lack of that familiar component contributed to the hemorrhage of membership after the opening.

The new forum is less radical in it's alterations to the familiar system, bringing back PL and combining it with stats. Your strength, speed, endurance, etc are all there but are now tied to your power level so as it increases, everything else does as well. However we've also attempted to avoid the problem that plagues many DB/DBZ sites, our PL system is starting low in the DB range and will not progress into the insane numbers that practically require scientific notation just to fit on screen. Progressing will be slower both to allow players to RP with each other without fear of running into that one spammer with a million billion trillion PL and no compunction against murdering you. This also ensures that players who enter late into the game will have a much better chance to be as important to the stories as the older players, then they would have on sites such as Resurrection or any other that have such a high PL curve. The stories too will not be as restrictive and will be player based with occasional NPC villains. This ensures that anyone can bring something interesting to the table without having to rely on constant input from the staff.

Anyway, at long last I would like to thank everyone who braved this bold experiment with us and I want to remind all of you that failure of an experiment is not a bad sign, it is how we progress. If all experiments were successful we would never learn anything, this is at the very core of science and indeed there are labs that specialize in finding ways to make things fail just so they can be improved. We learned a lot here and have used the knowledge along with the knowledge garnered from the failure of Resurrection to build a better forum and we hope that all of you will join us there.
