They came for me...early in the day... I had little choice in whether to go with them or not. Five minutes, just five minutes they said, to gather all I would need, they wouldn't even allow me to bring a bag, only what I could carry. Of course I grabbed the picture of my parents, it was all I had left of them, and my fathers watch. I didn't necessarily need them, but I wouldn't fell complete without them. If I hadn't been in such a shock I might have remembered to bring a tooth brush, oh the simple things you think of afterwards.
I wouldn't call it a kidnapping, they did give me notice of it... more like extortion to a modest degree of it. I heard them talking as I approached the door in my suit and tie, formal as always. Even in the worst of situations I always look as though I'm off to a business meeting. Through the blurred windows that line the perimeter of the door I could hear them talking, I was unsure if they could see me as of yet but I decided to press my luck. Walking ever so slowly I leaned in towards the door, pressing my ear against it's wooden frame. I didn't know exactly what I was into but I thought it best to find out as much as I could. Sometimes I curse myself for being a man of science, things had never gone right for me since the incident in north city.... Holding my breath I leaned there against the cool wood and listed to them talk.
"Is he really as good as they say?"
"Personally I cannot vouch for his skills but boss says he's the man for the job, and I've never seen the boss to be wrong before. Apparently he was the one that cause that big panic a few years back in north city though."
"Really? Shit... I think they're still cleaning that mess up. How was it that he wasn't jailed for that kind of shit?"
"The government ruled it as a 'accident' saying that a rouge AI went on a rampage."
"Bullshit... From what I've heard that he did it on purpose, he wanted to get rid of his competition at the exhibition."
"Well the whole thing is quite a mystery to me, maybe you can ask him yourself once he gets back outside. Speaking of which, I believe his time is up."
At least that's what I recall from listening to them, the knocking started right next to my ear causing me to almost jump out of my socks. Breathing hard I tried to regain my composure, I called out to them nervously that I was almost ready. Looking at myself in the mirror I straightened my tie, and ran my finger through my hair, always had to look my best. Making sure my belongings where with me, I turned the brass nob, opening the door I faced the two men that were talking from before. Both dressed in full black suits, and sunglasses they were the traditional men in black suits you always see on T.V. It would have been comical if it wasn't for the uncomfortable circumstances. Taking a deep breath I looked at the two men,
"Well gentlemen, shall we?"
"Be my guest." One of them said as they both moved out of the way.
With the two now out of my way I could now clearly see a black limousine parked in front of my house, it's black coat gleamed brightly in the morning light, just as the water droplets on the blades of grass.
"A little Cliché with all the black suits aren't we?" I questioned them.
"A little bit over dressed aren't we?" One of the men asked.
"Always dress for success." I replied almost instantly.
The other man laughed at my reply, seeming to take some humor out of it.
"Maybe that's why your stuck in your dead end relationship?" He told the man from before.
"Shut up, come on lets go Doc."
Giving me a slight push on the arm the men guided me towards the black vehicle, I wasn't looking forward too stepping inside of the car, god only knew where they were going to take me. Obviously from the way they were talking they were working for someone with a lot of power, just from the looks of the suits and the car alone they must have quite a lot of money. I took my time with the short walk down the foot path towards the car, enjoying every step I took, I had no idea where they would take me. Reaching the rear door of the car one of the men broke off from behind me, opening the door he waited for me to enter the vehicle. I nodded my head but asked them for one more second of their time, turning back around I looked at my house. It's strong brick structure, multi-framed windows, and white paint; with a feeling of sadness I turned and stepped inside of the car knowing that I would never see my old life again.
Leaning into the car I sat upon the leather seating that was placed all along the interior, it was quite nice inside with a fully stocked mini bar, t.v and other gadgets. I had little need of television entertainment or food at that moment my stomach was tied into knots, and my mind was to scattered to be focused on a tiny box that displayed cartoons. As I sat there I listened to the men outside as they made there way up to the front of car, opening the doors they made their way into the vehicle. Slamming the doors closed the engine shot to life, with the start of the car the locks activated sealing me inside of the metal tube, on a trip to god knows where. The car had been installed with two sided tinted windows, unable to see anything out of them I kept quite and waited for my arrival.
With the vehicle now in motion we made our way down the street that I was so familiar with, after all the years of living here I could tell just how far I had gone. Eventually I lost my bearing as the car started making twists and turns through out the various streets, I was only able to keep up for about a good twenty minutes before I lost all sense of direction. It was at this point that I truly came to the realization that nothing would ever be the same again, I was lost. I was lost with two strange men I had never met before, in a car traveling god knew how fast down an unfamiliar road, to an unknown location. I had a panic attack to say the least as my hearth rate increased so did my breathing, I did my best to control myself but in some situation's it's impossible to stop the inevitable. Falling off the leather seat, I sunk to the floor gasping for air. I will admit it wasn't my finest hour, me laying there on the floor like some animal desperately trying to depart from the current situation. But I was stuck trapped like the animal I was sounding like, I almost called out for help from the two men up front but something told me they would have been less than keen to helping me.
The attack soon passed, I laid there on the padded flooring looking up at the ceiling of the car thinking about my life up to this point. I questioned whether or not the choices I had made were for the best, certainly my life would have gone completely different and I would not have been stuck inside a car at that moment. I sighed to myself, at the situation I had gotten myself stuck into. So many mistakes... I wished I could have gone back and stopped the events of that day, but to my knowledge at that point and now I did not have the technology. Just one of those points in your life when you really have a good chuck of time to sit back, and do a full review in how your life went wrong. In a way... it was relaxing, not so much as seeing were I went wrong but were I saw I did something right, maybe if I got a second chance I could have done more rights than wrongs. Time flew by, I'm still not very sure how long I had been in that car for but I could tell that much time had pasted as finally my stomach began to un-knot, and I found myself in search of food.
I dug into the mini fridge that had been so graciously stocked with food and drink, eating my fill I placed what I did not want back. The time it took me to eat was a nice break from reality, I almost forgot that I still had no idea where I was traveling to and who I be expecting once I arrived there. There were so many questions that I had, and no answers to them as of yet, even as I write this I still question what is going on around here. There are so many layers of mystery and veiled curtains that I might never know, every time I think I'm finally going get somewhere I just end up getting more questions than answer, but isn't that how it always it?
At some point I dozed off, I dreamt... well I don't know what I really dreamt about, there were two men. Both very strong, and they were fighting each other...for what reason I had no idea...there was also...a monster. The monster and one of the men where fighting against the other, then there was a bright blast of light... and that's when I woke up still on the floor of the car. But this time the car door was open, the car now stopped. A bright light shown through the now open door, I was slow to get up but very curious as to my location now. Making sure I had my belongings on my person I made my way out of the car cautiously, with little knowledge of these people and there doings they could be up to anything. I was more than a little surprised when I stepped out of the car to see... a room... plain... everything was white. I couldn't tell if it was a room or not as everything seemed to be melded together and go off in a infinite direction. I stood there baffled as I scanned across the room, eventually my eyes came across a metal frame of a door.
Being the only other thing in the...area it stood out quite a bit, I was unsure about everything going on but my gut told me to moved forward, even though my brain told me to say with the car. I chose to listen to my gut this time, for what reason I wasn't sure but I did it anyway. I made my way across the distance to the door as heard a sudden noise from behind me, snapping around just in time I saw the vehicle disappearing into the floor below almost like quicksand it enveloped car. It didn't make the best of sense then and makes even less sense now but I didn't want to wait there and find out what might happen next. I quickly made my way to the door, grabbing it's metal knob I pulled the door open and slammed it behind me. Breathing heavily my eyes were shut tight, as I tired to regain myself once again. Were the hell was I?
Opening my eyes I took in my new surroundings , it looked as though I was standing in someone's house, well more like an apartment now that I really look around at it. Off in the corner was a plush looking bed, almost fluffy looking in sense with all it's plump sheets and pillows. A few book shelves, a couple of metal desks, and a rolling chair. There was another door leading from the room taking a quick glance inside it, I discovered it was a bathroom. Even more questions flowed into me as I looked around the room trying to figure out what was really going on here. Leaning against the door frame between the rooms I glanced back over the room to see if I missed anything, to my surprised...shock more of, the door from which I had first entered was now gone. Running over to where it was last located at I stood there running my hand against it's smooth surface trying to find some proof of its prior existence. It almost felt like I was playing a game with a person I had no knowledge of and whom I could not see, frustrating to say the least.
After a few minutes of searching with no results I gave up, no point on wasting my energy on something that wasn't there anymore.
Walking over to the rolling chair I sat down it, relieving myself of all the weight and stress I sighed out loud to myself. It hurt to think, trying to process all this information would give anyone but a super computer a migraine. Sliding the chair over to the nearby desk I examined the items that were placed on it's surface, with little else to do I didn't see why I cold get familiar with my room, it looks as though I will be staying here awhile. Finding that a large quantity of paper was being supplied to me I decided that I would record my actions and thoughts from now here on out, with no idea on how long I would be here I though it would be best to keep my mind occupied. Who knows I might need to come back to read this one day for something important.
Here's to day one....
I awoke from my slumber suddenly I shot up from my bed with sweat dripping from my face, I looked around at the unfamiliar setting in where I was at. It took me a few seconds to realize where I was,the events of the day before; with all the facts coming back to me I settled down. Breathing hard I kicked the sheets off from me exposing my bare legs too the cool air of the room. Stretching my legs out from the bed towards the rest of the room, I brought my self up onto my elbow. Rubbing my eyes to rid the sleep from my eyes I slowly adjusted myself with the darkness of the room. Sleep was something I didn't get much of that night I tossed and turned, waking up multiple times whether if it was from being so far away from everything I knew or just a bad night to sleep I'm still not sure. Legs already dandling off the edge of the bed I decided it was best to start my day, no point in wallowing in my bed till something happened, sometimes you had to go looking for it.
I dressed quickly as I started to have the ever growing feeling that I was being monitored, even though I saw no cameras of any sort I felt that I had prying eyes locked on me. Not being the best with personal matters such as that, the wardrobe change was much faster than usual leaving me feel awkward...well more awkward in a already strange situation. It was a poor clothes change, suit slight askew and hair a mess I made my way into the bathroom to correct my appearance. After fixing myself up, I returned back into the main room and froze in disbelief the wall next closet to me that was blank before now had a large window built in to it. I glanced around the room trying to find the cause of such a drastic change, but too by disdain I saw no one who could have done it. Given the time that I was in the lavatories it would have been impossible to replace a whole wall, I quickly came to the conclusion that wall had two parts to it. One wall dropped down before the second hiding the window, for what reason I am still unsure though.
Slowly I made my way over the window I was still very uncertain of what I might see but my damn curiosity always gets the best of me in these situations, I swear it's going to be the death of me one day. As a peered into the clear glass I saw before me a large white room with metal tables and computers lining the walls. It looked like a futuristic lab I could already tell from here that all the computer were state of the art, who ever was running the show here was paying out the ass just for the electronics. However there were many other devices that I couldn't and still can't identify, looking as though it had come from a different planet it's self. It was a great skeptical to witness, in the awe of all the excitement I leaned in towards the wall touching it's glass surface with my hand. That's when a voice shout out from the room,
"Good morning Dr.Geio." A computerized voice called out to me.
The glass wall that was before me lit up around my hand, feeling hot to the touch I pulled my hand back too see that a imprint of my hand was left etched into the glass. Being careful not to touch the glass again I moved closer to where the imprint was, it was an exact replica of the skin weave on the palm of my hand. I have seen technology similar to this but not in such a degree as it was before me, as much as I wanted to study the technology more the wall began to shake. Not being sure of what might happen next I took precautionary movements and stood back, as I watched the glass wall be lifted into the ceiling. Taking only a few second the wall was no longer blocking my path as the lab was open to me, with the excitement building up I quickly dashed into the room, lest I be locked inside the cramped room.
The room had the very familiar smell of chemical clearer and electronics, fumes that I was quite used too. Standing in the room I left almost at home, in my element it. Through all the excitement a voice broke in to interrupt my joy,
"Hello, Mr. Geio. I glad to see your well and awake."
The voice surprised me but at least this time it was one of a human,
"Yes...um, to whom I'm I addressing? And why am I here?" I called out to the voice.
"To keep things simple and to hide my true identity you may refer to me as "The director", a bit cliché I must admit but the name has stuck over the years, and as for your questions I'm sure you have many and they shall be answered in good time."
"A few years? How long had he been at this game." I thought.
"As to why you are here, I require your services.Humanity requires your services. I will try my best to explain please try to keep up. A few years back a team of researches discovered ancient ruins, upon further investigation they discovered devices...remain if you will that were in a unearthly nature. Bringing them back to disclose location scientists were further able to work on the devices until they were able to hack into the terminal of one which revealed to us...the universe is much larger than we had first thought. The electronics showed as a map of our known universe, and what was unknown to us. It was amazing to see how little we really knew, and it wasn't just maps that they device showed us! Weapons, quantum machines, advanced medicine; granted those technologies showed to us were many more years advanced than out current technology, however we have been successful in a few attempt's to reserve engineer there technology." Taking a deep breath from his words, the man's voice suddenly change to a much darker one.
"However... as exciting as this discovery was, it brought disaster with it.... After tampering with the device the scientists discovered that it was emitting a sub sonic signal through space. Having no idea what the signal was many wanted to destroy it, however I was able to convince them otherwise. Not wanting to damage the device we worked day and night to deactivate the signal, it took many months but we were successful in out attempts. Soon after doing so the device pulled up the map of the universe it had show us before but this time a star system was lit up in red. We were puzzled until the device also showed us data banks of information, after bringing in many specialists on the matter to translate the information, we decoded the data. It was on a race of beings that lived on another world, bruteful and dangerous they were not to be trifled with. It gave many examples in which the monsters had destroyed count less world, enslaving or genocide the whole planet to sell off. At first we though they must have high level of technology to have amassed so much power but no, they could some how harness a power called "Ki", with there almost infinite strength and super hero powers they seemed invincible I was horrid at the things I read.... that's when we learn of our mistake.... Pulling the map back up the object which had been highlighted before had moved...straight towards earth. Whatever the signal had been the "Saiyan's" had picked it up.... Something are best left unknown...."
My brain bounced around as I took in the story that the..director...told me, it was a lot take in. Life outside our own planet! I had always thought that there was life else where but nothing like this; then initial excitement wore off quickly as I learned of how dangerous this unknown threat might be.
"How do we necessarily know that whatever is heading our way is a threat? Given though the records from the data base you recovered told us of their reputation for aggressive acts, the data was old; who knows how old. Maybe things have change?"
"That is all well and nice, but lets say this is worst case scenario. They are coming this way and they are dangerous."
"...ok... well that still doesn't explain why I was blackmailed, taken from my house and driven gods knows where." I said calmly but with a aggressive tone.
"I apologize for the inconvenience but time is off the essences. Judging from the speed that the object is moving we have the better half of three years before it arrives. In that time we need to prepare, and I need you to work on this."
A clicking sound echoed through out the room as gears began to spin and twirl in the ground below me, moving out from the center of the room I saw the floor spit in half. Spreading apart a large black whole appeared in front of me, I wanted to glance down in it but I felt as though I should wait, as if more was too come. Predicting correctly, a glass box emerged from the depth of the blackness shining brightly in the neon lights of the room. As it slowly rose I began to see a chrome skeleton, looking to be almost human but a incomplete frame. Reaching it's full height the glass box sunk back into the ground leaving the skeleton frame hovering in front of me. With the floor connecting back together I stepped closer to the metal frame, it was like nothing I had ever seen before. Though not complete it still seem a master piece in my eyes.
"What is it?"
"With your degrees in robotics,A.I, and V.I, I would think you would know by now."
"You mean? This thing is a...?"
"Correct, a android. But a far from a complete version as you may have already noticed."
"Indeed, it has no servo's, no major ligaments, no power core...."
"Yes, yes I'm more than aware of what it's missing, what I need is for it to be operational. We are trying to build the prefect android to date, I'm more than aware of your skills, all I need is your time."
"Guess that I don't have much of a choice, and from the looks of it how could I pass a chance like this over."
"In the end it may be our only hope of survival."
"...Obviously you didn't just find this laying around the ground, who built this?"
I wouldn't call it a kidnapping, they did give me notice of it... more like extortion to a modest degree of it. I heard them talking as I approached the door in my suit and tie, formal as always. Even in the worst of situations I always look as though I'm off to a business meeting.
